Community Garden Project

Its that time of year again......We are excited and can't wait to start putting in more community gardens this year.Your support is needed for the community garden projects. We need to purchase fencing and other materials to enclose the gardens. This year we will also introduce  and build small chicken coops. This will truly help families become more self sufficient and provide families with nourishing meals. In order to end the vicious cycle of poverty and hunger on the Pine Ridge Reservation we offer a helping hand and hope to many families.  Your help is truly needed and very much appreciated !

Winter on the Reservation brings well below freezing temperatures, blistering winds, and snow with some day time temperatures staying near or below zero. Can you imagine it being that cold and not having any source of heat in your home? Can you imagine being an Elder or a family with many small children living this way? This is the way it is for many Native American families with small children and the elderly. It’s hard to even think anyone has to suffer like this. This is why Hearts of the Sacred Spirit created the "Heating Assistance Program" to assist as many families as possible. Winter is the time for comfort, for good food and warmth, for the touch of a friendly hand and for long talks beside the fire. For many its a time of struggle, limited food, and no way to obtain heat for their homes. Please allow the warmth in your heart help heat a home for a family this winter.

We depend on you to help these families in crisis. Please consider making a contribution (tax deductible), to Hearts of the Sacred Spirit for heating assistance program and help us meet the 500 challenge! Are YOU up to the challenge ???Thank you so much for your continued support.

Yearning For Learning Program

School and an education is vital in the life of a child, and especially in the life of children living in poverty. Education can make the difference between continuing in the poverty cycle, and getting out and making a better life for themselves and their families. Your donations can help change the life of a child..

The "Yearning For Learning" program for children living on the Pine Ridge reservation allows children to attend school with the necessary school supplies .The parents often have to choose between meals and paying the utilities before even considering purchasing school supplies. Like most kids, these kids may dread going back to school. But it's not because of homework; it's because their parents can't afford to buy the basic school supplies that are needed and required.

Our program allows these children to go back to school with the necessary items to be able to start the school year. Your $20.00 donation gives a child a fresh start and the confidence knowing they are prepared for school….Each $20.00 donation will include the following: Book bag, paper, box of pencils, pencil sharpener, crayons, ruler, folders, notebooks, scissors, calculator, glue, and pencil bag.

We really prefer monetary donations because we can purchase the backpacks and school supplies at a lower price through a distributor where we can get more for the money, but we are not picky - we wil be happy to accept donations of school supplies as well. We do ask that if you purchase supplies that you please only purchase items on this list so we can give each child the same set of supplies.

•New backpacks in solid or neutral colors (no character backpacks please)
•Single subject notebooks
•Bic or PaperMate stick pens (blue or black ink)
•Pencils
•12 inch rulers (wood or plastic)
•24 pack crayons
•School glue (no glue sticks - they melt in transport)
•2-pocket folders
•Erasers (the big pink ones)

Heating Assistance Program

We are not state or federally funded, all of our work is the result of wonderful caring people such as yourselves. Please allow the warmth in your heart help heat a home this winter....www.heartsofthesacredspirit.org
